Department of Automobile and Mechanical Engineering

Introduction

Technical Training Institute later named as Thapathali Campus started 3 years’ vocational training in mechanical, automobile and electrical trades for S.L.C. graduates from 2022 B.S. to 2024 B.S. Campus started diploma in mechanical engineering and diploma in automobile engineering from 2043 B.S.

According to the policy of Institute of Engineering (IOE), Thapathali Campus introduced Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering in 2068 B.S. under Department of Mechanical Engineering which is now named as Department of Automobile and Mechanical Engineering as the fourth bachelor program in campus. The numbers of available seats are 12 regular seats and 36 full fee seats per intake. This program aims to provide knowledge of classic and modern theories and systems in the field of machines, designs, management and energy and also the knowledge of existing technologies, processing and methodologies in various companies around the globe. This is more practical, projects and research based study and is required to meet the demand of growing economy and technology based modern world.

In 2072 B.S., Department of Automobile and Mechanical Engineering introduced Bachelor in Automobile Engineering for the first time in Nepal. The numbers of available seats are 12 regular seats and 36 full fee seats per intake. This program aims to provide knowledge related to design, manufacturing and operating automobiles like motorcycles, buses, trucks, construction equipment etc. including mechanical, electrical, electronic software and safety elements.

In 2074 B.S., Department of Automobile and Mechanical Engineering is starting a master degree course in core mechanical engineering i.e, M.Sc. Mechanical Engineering in Design and Manufacturing. This 2-year (4-semester) Master of Science program consists of a package of courses covering important areas for fundamental solid mechanics, vibrations, design of system and components and their manufacturing process and technology. This master program is designed to give students a focused, relevant and utilizable body of knowledge in mechanical design and manufacturing for people with an interest in starting and managing design and manufacturing related projects.

The graduates of these two bachelor and one master program are expected to serve in government and non-government institutions, international organizations and entrepreneurial firms, manufacturing as well as services industries in Nepal as well as abroad and contribute in design and manufacture of mechanical and automobile components & systems  and enhancement of development of new technology.
